We are a Broad-Based BEE private equity fund that uses financial returns earned from our investments across a wide range of sectors, to uplift rural education and close South Africa’s inequality gap. Shalamuka Capital was founded in 2008 by RMB Corvest and the Shalamuka Foundation.
We partner with South African businesses and invest our own funds (rather than third party funds) and collaborate with RMB Corvest throughout the life-cycle of our investments. Profits generated by Shalamuka Capital are ultimately for the benefit of previously disadvantaged students, by virtue of our shareholder, the Shalamuka Foundation.
The Shalamuka Foundation was founded in 2006 by one of FirstRand’s co-founders, Paul Harris. His vision was to raise sustainable funding for Penreach – a non-governmental and social impact organisation that offers quality education in disadvantaged rural communities in and around Mpumalanga. In 2023 the Penreach programme reached more than 50 000 school children and 900 teachers.

Our Values
At Shalamuka Capital we work constructively with our partners to grow businesses and play a meaningful role in influencing the strategic trajectory of one of South Africa’s most exciting sources of economic growth – entrepreneurial, innovative, sustainable and medium-sized businesses.
The proceeds of these investments are then channelled into rural education to grow and promote the next leaders of these very same businesses – a virtuous cycle that we are passionate to be a part of.
